Another OT talk..
This time is a special guest from oversea..
Humm..Mobility instructor from UK..
Pretty cool job to have..
They assist the visual impaired to have the ability for community mobility..
by using the GPA system and guide dogs..
Teaching us how to guide vision-impaired client

She also brought along a visually impaired client so that we are able to caught sight of an guide dog..I find the guy very amazing and inspiring despite in his physical impairment.
One important satement that I remenber him saying is that:
“When u are using the walking stick; you are constantly looking for danger to aviod danger”
This is so TRUE!!
I never notice these until he pointed it out..thats just tell me how little I know abt the client and how little my experiences are..
Since the visually impaired client are usually the smaller group in the community; many people do no really have suficent resources and knowledge on how to take care of them; i never tot that this is how they felt until that day in the lecture hall..
The equipment for viusally are comparily expensive since the market size is smaller; it required more attention
A lecture then asked him’ if buying all the quipment considered luxary?
He answered very simply and asked back,
“Do u considered buying a car a luxary?”
“Yes!!” the crowd replyed without hesitation.
“Then do you considered falling down once a month a luxary?”
“Do you considered falling down from once per week to once per month a luxary?
“Do you considered getting lesser pain a luxary”
Silent.
Silent.
Slient.
“How do you define luxary? ” He retorted, pushing the question back to us.
I felt like a slap in my face.
I felt humiliated by my own ignorance.
This is healthcare.
I realised that I am too narrow-minded.
This is like a wake-up call to me.
Occupational Therapy is not simple at all.
